So I have recieved a bit more info on revolution Parkour in Beaverton. For one they(Adam Dunlap) never responded to my e-mail. I had simply asked for some info for our little group here in Track town. He never responded. Secondly- Tyson Cecka has informed me that those cats have repeatedly refused to involve themselves in the local(NorthWest) PK scene. They hold no jams. Only charging for "outdoor training." They will not involve themselves with Oregon Pk. And will no donate no time for charities, or working with other groups. I have gotten the impression that they fancy themselves a stuntman school, for elite Tracuers. Yet they don't even come out to jam... Lame- Imagine if Tim and I charged to meet up @ UofO? Yeah these don't sound like guys I want to affiliate EPK with.
The Gym Jam was amazingly successful. We all had a great time. I got to really be balls out for once and try things I never had the courage to try on pavement or even grass. It was one of the most intense training sessions (Physically and mentally) that I have ever experienced. We had great laughs and an all around amazing time. I want to thank the USGA for having us, and I hope we can make this a once a month trainning session. If any of the people who showed up want to comment with there experience there and what they loved, it would be awesome.
A small gym in Beaverton,OR (p-town) is operating as a Parkour Gym. Teaching both adult and child classes. Further divided into both beginner and advanced. Indoor and outdoor. Pretty cool stuff. The Beaver Valley Times Did a write up on parkour and the gym.It always interests me to see how others address the Parkour education process and the ways in which they choose to monetize it. I am by no means apposed to making money with pk, just the idea of charging for every interaction/jam seems pretty lame...
He offers one easy truth I appreciate deeply -In the end, Dunlap stresses the simple joys of the sport he loves and the independence of its movement. He also stresses that watching the elite athletes shouldn’t scare people off. Most people will never leap from such great heights. “Just because you train,” he says, “doesn’t mean you can jump off a building.”
Revolution Parkour Classes, at ADAPT Training 9923 S.W. Arctic Drive, are $15 for drop-in sessions or a $40 monthly fee.
As gyms go, this is low cost. As we all move forward; it might be an interesting idea to go get some training form other people in our region. Any thought s on that idea?
We've been keeping up the practicing and training, but now its time for something new. the First Official Eugene Parkour Gym Jam. The Jam will be taking place at 4540 Commerce Street, Eugene OR USGA.
Its Right Next to the Wallmart on west 11th. We will be meeting in the wallmart parking lot at 11:00, the open gym time is 12:00 - 2:00 and its 5 dollars an hour. So Bring Ten Bucks, and your A game and lets get some good practice in on the mats. It will be really nice to be able to try flips or vaults that I have been to intimidated to attempt yet. There should also be gymnastics instructors who will be there to help us with any questions. So, Don't pass up this golden opportunity.
So- at the least the Friday Jam will be changing soon. I have classes starting for fall term and will be busy @ the current time. It's looking like 12pm on Saturdays will be the new time for me. The question is- What time would work for everyone else? Perhaps- Tuesdays or Thursdays around 4pm?
Sound off and lets make sure we don't lose all the gains we made this summer! Fall training will be wonderful in less heat :) Sound off and let me know what works for you! -LongHardt
Yes, Today I woke up and thought "Man, we have photos that need to be up"
So I started a Eugene Parkour Flickr account. It can be located at Eugene Parkour
Right now there arnt that many photos, but I'm hoping we can make packing a camrea with us a regular thing for the meet ups. If you have any photos of you doing parkour outside the meet up and want them placed here just drop me a line at EPKTim@Gmail.com and I'll get them up there for you.
Also, on two of our last runs we were so lucky as to run into a photographer named Wolfram Burner who kindly took some photos of us doing our stuff. So quite a few of those pics are from him. If any of you have a chance I highly suggest checking out his photos at His Flickr Page.
I have found that my ability to run is sharply diminished. Due almost entirely to no longer running in the mornings. Hell- my mile time today was 9:40!! A sad desperate shame... My point my fellow Tracuers; How many of you actively run? How many of us run a 8 minute mile? Seriously. Running is such an integral part of our art. Aside from our normal PK fun- is anyone interested in some running/conditioning? Please sound off with your mile times, if you run. If you'd like to train/run with me let me know = longhardt at gmail.com
So far so good, EPK is really making a name for its self as Eugene's Parkour group. WE are making good connections and everyone is having an amazing time.
Again meet ups are listed on this blog, if you have any questions you can hit my email up at EPKTim@Gmail.com
Now, because I'm so happy about it. A picture of me landing a Kong to a precision at the U of O campus on Fridays meet up.
Every Monday & Friday. Fridays- are The Suit and whoever shows. Mondays-Tim & Albany Ben Both are 3pm @ Espresso Roma; 13th ave. on UofO Campus. Show up sober and ready!
In hopes to have some sort of a regimented training routine Me and my friend Ben (Bend Ben) have made Monday a set day for training. We are mostly on the U of O campus and around downtown. Its a fun gathering, not hardcore conditioning, but trust me I go home sore. We work all parts of our bodies and it really becomes a game and a good time hanging out with friends. So come run with us.
There have been a few new faces popping up around here lookin for PK madness. Yet I don't seem to be hearing Back from people. Sooo.... Get on with your jump. Summer is half way over and soon we will all use poor weather to excuse one more year passing us by, Fridays are awesome for me. Saturdays would be even better. Everyone sound off! Let's all make just one day work, just one time. We can all meet and exchange contact info. Then we will have a face to match with a text. Once we all meet up, then we can figure out how everyone can get some time jamming/training with at least one other Tracuer. Be Fit and stay Sharp! -Benjamin All guys so far- any girlz wanna show us up?
Tim and I (benjamin) are the to authors for this site. Tim meets on mondays with another ben from corvallis. I (eugene Benjamin) train often on Fridays at UofO Campus. You can also reach me directly via trainer@fitmantoday.com. Looking forward to meeting you very soon. How much experience do you have? I am very new and still learning basics-
I've heard many things; none can be disputed or proven.
I've heard that it was Sebastian Foucan who started it, I heard it was David Bell who started it. I have heard that it was young kids, I've heard that it was to get away from drug dealers or cops. I've heard that it was how our ancestors hunted and I've heard that it was used for getting through the Vietnam Jungles during the war. I don’t know, honestly it doesn’t matter to me. Parkour is a philosophy, it is the act of overcoming obstacles both physical and psychological, and a way to stay in shape and better my body.
One interesting video that came to my attention recently shows basic Parkour, the interesting thing was the video was shot in the 1930's.
So While we can see it wasn’t a product of MTV we can understand that this idea, this concept of movement has been around for quite some time.
Parkour means different things to different people. Find what it means to you.
We seem to have an impromtu training sesh gettin on- So Tim and I will be in the back/outdoor area of Espresso Roma on 13th at 2pm. I hope everyone can make it! I figure we'll make a bit of ground training, with some follow the leader. Or whatever people are up for. Bring your energy and fresh ideas-
So I went to The meeting spot last week and no one showed... When would be best for everyone? If we are going to make this happen, and improve at any type of a reasonable pace, a regular training/Jam time is essential. Wednesday and Saturday are good for me- how about everyone else?
Those of you who maybe new to the local parkour scene, should really take the time to check out OPK. A state dedicated site, which consists almost entirely of the forums. It has many tracuers far more experienced than I and is a great communication point. Sign up and get involved!
We are leaning towards a sat afternoon Jam. Perhaps on UofO campus? Any thoughts? Ideas? Preferred training times? No voice no vote- lookin to hear from you.
At 4ish on wed the 27th, we will be at LCC. Training down around the track/soccer fields at first. So come find us and join us in our growth. I'm planning on some Ground Kongs and Kong Vaults, maybe some more fun in Tim's corner. See ya there-
So I've been watching quite a few videos lately. Some of them I have stumbled across and some were sent to me by fellow Traceurs. If you have a chance I highly suggest checking them out. There is allot of information and allot of inspiration to be gleaned from these videos.
Since there will be a few I videos I'm going to link them instead of embedding them.
A two part show on The Royal Marines practicing with some of the urban free flow guys, then the Urban Free flow guys participating in training with the Royal Marines.
Parkour, as I have found it to be, requires some base level of fitness. Only so much can be accomplished as you are today. The reality of being a Tracuer(sp?) is to always be a beginner, yet have the steady confidence of the veterans body... So we will endlessly condition our bodies to be ready and able- From my point of view, you should be able to do some basic exercises well; and with being too fatigued from the process. So here some are: Run a 9 minute mile and be able to talk with ease at the end. 10 Pull-Ups with at least one left in the tank. 30 Body Squats, with juice left to sprint. 25 Push-Ups with out struggling. The main theme here is that all of this should be within your normal range. The only thing I'm struggling with is the pull-ups... I could do a lot better with the running. Many of you can do way more than 25 push-ups, yet body-squats will challenge some. As much as getting together for Jams will be the fun, and training together will inspire- doing this type of boring horse-training on our own will allow, and facilitate, the group to excel.
Sup My Fellow Tracuers- Today we have started E.P.K.!! Here is our first simple attempt at a Parkour group. We have found plenty of people interested, and most have asked if we're starting a group. Well we are! So everyone post your comments and ideas/desires. More soon- We are; B. Hardt & T. Burns. Run and be sharp minded
We are a Parkour group based in Eugene, OR. A gathering of like mined Tracuers, interested in training and running. We are committed to safety and well being; in a respectful manner. We are a 18 and over only group, Liability is an issue.
